Monitoring Corn Crops Against Insects: Learn How to Do It

To learn how to carry out the sampling process for monitoring corn crops, continue reading this article from LG Sementes, a leader in seeds in Europe and 4th worldwide.

Monitoring Corn Crops: Sampling the Fall Armyworm

For sampling the fall armyworm, 25 consecutive plants should be sampled at least at 4 points in the field (totaling 100 plants) over an area of approximately 10 hectares.

The action threshold for fall armyworm is determined based on a visual damage scale from zero to nine (0–9), known as the Davis Scale.

Important: the action threshold for insecticide application is reached when 20% of the plants have a score equal to or greater than three.

Another important tip for monitoring corn crops is to rotate insecticides with different modes of action when more than one application is needed.
